Spring (March to May)
As temperatures rise, insect activity increases and overwintering pests become visible again. Spring is when many pest populations begin to build, making it the ideal time to address issues before they escalate over summer. Ant colonies send out foragers as soon as the ground warms, wasp queens emerge from hibernation to start new nests, and rodent activity that was established over winter becomes more apparent as breeding accelerates.
Signs to look for
- Ants trailing along external walls, patios, and into kitchens
- Queen wasps scouting for nest sites around eaves, sheds, and loft spaces
- Increased rat and mouse activity as breeding rates rise
- Cluster flies emerging from loft hibernation on warm days
- Moths appearing around wardrobes and food storage areas
- Mole activity peaking as they establish territories and breed
What to do
Seal gaps around doors, windows, and utility entries. Clear garden debris and trim vegetation away from buildings. Book a spring survey to identify early signs of pest activity before populations build over summer.
